it's so strange
sitting in my room
door locked
crying
hearing happy sounds
chatting and talking
just outside
unaware
do they know
would they care
so tired
so tired
...
Stand
Wipe away the fears
Smile
Apply the mask
Walk
Interact again
Wait
Can they tell?
Watch
They're judging me.
Pause
They're moving on.
Practice
It's a masquerade.
Patience
They're still there.
Parry
They have better friends.
Stop
It's not true.
Sit
They do care.
Stall
But why?
Stagnant
You're losing them.
Spent
Why did you wait?
The draft stood quietly, not sure what to do. The mare was entirely broken. Her body shook with sobs, sprawled on the ground. "Cybele... Cybele, Cybele, Cybele," Gregg rested his muzzle against her shoulder. "He's gone. My dad's gone," Her voice broke as she returned to sobs. "I know. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry," He carefully lowered himself beside her, resting his neck across hers until the aged mare drifted off to sleep, sides still shaking slightly. Yet, he remained. He would remain until she woke back up.
The mare's eyes opened. The draft's warm presence soothed her. The cry had helped as well. Her father was gone, but she still had Gregg.

Family Reunion (Week of Stories: Prompt 7)
When the days are cold
The stallion galloped across the greyscaled plains. His white ears pivoted about as he slowed. This land. It was lonely here. Those who'd been in the herd with him were gone. His beloved mate, gone. A movement. A painted stallion cantered toward him. "Mikahl." The paint slowed to a walk. "Mal!" Mikahl sprung toward him. He slung his neck across the taller stallion's withers.
And the cards all fold
"Where-where are we?" The white stallion queried. His hooves danced nervously, out of his control. Malacus gave a weary smile. "I'm afraid we're in the afterlife. Wandering for eternity, it seems. Lewah and I have been here f

You gotta dig a little deeper
Find out who you are
A small child twirled about and ran down the pier, arms spread wide. Her parents watched on in amusement. With each stride, she seemed to grow taller and taller, and they seemed to age. The nearly adult reached the end of the pier and turned to see her parents standing so far away, still smiling at her. With a hesitant gulp, she turned back to the sunlit water. Small sparkles bounced from the water.
You gotta dig a little deeper
It really ain't that far
A smooth dive, and she collided with the water. It slid across her body with ease. The steadily aging woman swam against the waves and the c

Into Battle (Week of Stories: Prompt 5)
Oh! Some people might call ya crazy
They say we only live for fun
The dwarf slings his shield over his shoulder, listening to the distant sound of war drums. This. This is what he lives for. A sly grin crosses his face as he calls his boar to his side. As Ebor approaches, Durran flies from the house and leaps on the back of the sturdy mount. With a deep rumble of a laugh, Orsik relocates the puppy to the ground.
She growls for a brief moment before waiting patiently. The red haired being quickly saddles the boar and swings on. The shepherd barely has time to leap on before they're off, Orsik's sword high in the air.
Ooh They may be right but

Broken Minds (Week of Stories: Prompt 4)
Hold, hold on, hold on to me
The filly wandered aimlessly. Where'd everybody gone? Not that it really mattered-they didn't love her anyways. All she'd ever wanted was love, attention. It'd gotten to the point she would do anything to get attention. Good... or bad.
Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady
She'd started off so well. Playing with other foals, racing, winning challenges-but then things had started to slide. She'd gotten into fights with the older foals, and even some young adults. It wasn't the greatest thing, but it got the attention of the caretakers when she came back bloodied and beaten.
Hold, hold on, hold on to me
